When Neil Kelly opened his home remodeling and repair company in Northeast Portland in 1947, he made a commitment to the neighborhood. More than 50 years later, the company’s flagship store is still located on N. Alberta Street and President Tom Kelly continues his father’s neighborhood involvement.
“My dad started delivering Meals-On-Wheels in this area as soon as Loaves & Fishes opened in 1970,” Tom said. “I often went along with him on his route. Our employees have always been involved in delivering meals – it’s just part of our corporate culture.”
Today, Neil Kelly Designers/Remodelers
regularly delivers every Tuesday for our North-
east Center. A team of 14 regular drivers and
one substitute share the responsibility. Here
are some of their comments:

“I love getting out into the community.”
“It’s great to see the faces of the people when we come to the door with a hot meal.”
“I feel better after I’ve driven my route than when I started out.”
“I’ve been delivering meals for 14 years and I really know my clients! When I look at the route book and see that one of my people is in the hospital, it makes me sad and I always ask the center manager how they’re doing.”
“We know our route so well that we know when the clients have their houses painted – and they know when we get new cars!”
“I drive a PT Cruiser and the ladies on my route know me because I’m the one from Neil Kelly with the ‘cute’ car!”
