October Volunteer of the Month St. Peter's Catholic Church Ladies
The ladies of St. Peter’s Catholic Church have a unique place among the volunteers at the Lents Loaves & Fishes Center. Most of them were there when the center opened in their church basement in 1972. And that same group is still volunteering faithfully more than 32 years later. The center was relocated to the Lents Village Apartments nearly nine years ago, but the St. Peter’s ladies continued to volunteer the first and third Thursdays and the fourth and fifth Mondays.Carolyn Zimmerman, who coordinates the volunteers, said, "Volunteering at Loaves & Fishes is a way to feel useful – and it beats sitting around the house and doing nothing!" Carolyn admits to "beating the bushes" to continually keep her volunteer team going over the years – although it doesn't seem she meets any resistance!
One of her oldest volunteers is Blanche Kinish, who
