Volunteer of the Month Tim Schroeder, PML Microbiologicals
Tim Schroeder spends his days working as vice president of operations for PML Microbiologicals. The company produces medical devices such as Petri dishes, test tubes and the like used by clinical laboratories and pharmaceutical companies. So when a student in his wife’s aerobics class mentioned that she volunteered as a Meals-On-Wheels driver for her local Loaves & Fishes Center, Tim’s curiosity was piqued. He phoned Judy Sutton, manager of the Tualatin-Durham Loaves & Fishes Center, and signed on to be a substitute driver. That was six years ago. He now delivers regularly and has recruited one of his coworkers, Minda Evalle, to deliver as well.
“Delivering meals is a great break in the day for me,” Tim said. “It takes my mind off what can be a stressful week. And as volunteer drivers, we’re delivering more than just a meal. For a lot of these seniors, they’re looking for companionship and someone to talk to. We provide them with a friendly smile and some conversation in a day that may be just time spent with the television.”
