October marks the start of new and exciting service for seniors in North Clark County! Beginning Monday, Oct. 20, lunch will be served Monday through Friday at the new Battle Ground Community Center, located at 912 East Main Street. Up until this time, hot noon meals were available to seniors in Battle Ground on Wednesdays only. Jackie McAtee, who has been managing all Loaves & Fishes Centers operations in North Clark County, will manage the new Battle Ground location.
Meal service for seniors in La Center will expand to twice weekly. Beginning Oct. 20, lunch will be served on Mondays and Thursdays. La Center Loaves & Fishes Center is located at 1000 E 4th Street in La Center. Seniors who usually dine at the Yacolt location will be moving as well. Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 22, lunch will be served every Wednesday at the Countree Kitchen, 39813 NE 216th Ave. in Amboy. Sandi GeBorde will manage these two sites.
Since 1970 Loaves & Fishes Centers has provided a nutritional and social lifeline for seniors through 33 meal sites in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties and Meals-On-Wheels delivery to homebound seniors. With the help of more than 7,500 volunteers, the nonprofit, nonsectarian agency now serves 5,000 meals daily and more than 1.4 million meals each year. Loaves & Fishes Centers was named one of the “Ten Most Admired Companies” in the non profit category in Oregon by The Portland Business Journal in 2006.
