Employees of businesses located in downtown Portland can carve a pumpkin and help feed homebound seniors at the same time. Pumpkin Carving & Neighborhood Good Cheer, which takes place Oct. 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Elm Court Loaves & Fishes Center, will feature pumpkin carving and a meal of white bean vegetarian chili created by Chef Robert Bradley. In addition, those in attendance will have the opportunity to win an original jack-o-lantern carved by students at the Northwest Academy.
Tickets are $10 each. Elm Court Loaves & Fishes Center is located at 1032 SW Main Street in Portland. Proceeds will help provide hot meals to homebound seniors served by the Meals-On-Wheels program.
Students from Northwest Academy will display their pumpkin creations in every window of the St. Francis Apartments on the evening of the event. Come at dusk and watch the display from Main Street! Since 1970 Loaves & Fishes Centers has provided a nutritional and social lifeline for seniors through 32 meal sites in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties and Meals-On-Wheels delivery to homebound seniors. With the help of more than 7,400 volunteers, the nonprofit, nonsectarian agency now serves 5,000 meals daily and more than 1.4 million meals each year. Loaves & Fishes Centers was named one of the “Ten Most Admired Companies” in the non profit category in Oregon by The Portland Business Journal in 2006.
