Loaves & Fishes Centers first Clark County Annual Luncheon raised more than $112,000 in just one hour to help provide hot meals to seniors throughout Clark County. Matching funds from the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund helped to surpass the event’s fundraising goal.
More than 260 Clark County business leaders and volunteers gathered at the Vancouver Hilton on April 28 to hear Battle Ground Mayor Mike Ciraulo deliver a keynote address. Mayor Ciraulo has been a longtime supporter of Loaves & Fishes Centers and serves on the steering committee at the Battle Ground Loaves & Fishes Center.
Steve Rosvold, principal of KRM Business Solutions, served as master of ceremonies. The Compassion for Seniors Award, given annually to a volunteer who has provided outstanding service to the seniors in our community, was presented to Wilburt and Joanna Olsen, volunteers at the Firstenburg Loaves & Fishes Center in Vancouver.
Regence was the presenting sponsor of the event. Clark County Public Television donated their services to create the video shown at the Luncheon. Panera Bread donated 250 loaves of bread and Columbia Machine donated custom coasters to each guest. Larry Smith and Connie Jones chaired the volunteer committee that put on the event. Ed and Dollie Lynch served as honorary chairs.
Since 1970 Loaves & Fishes Centers has provided a nutritional and social lifeline for seniors through 31 meal sites in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties and Meals-On-Wheels delivery to homebound seniors. With the help of more than 7,400 volunteers, the nonprofit, secular agency now serves 5,000 meals daily and more than 1.4 million meals each year.
