Loaves & Fishes Centers will celebrate 40 years of service to seniors with a special kickoff event on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. Held in the historic Lincoln Street Methodist Church, from where the first Meals-On-Wheels were delivered, the event will commemorate those volunteers who started the senior nutrition program in February 1970. In attendance will be Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, Portland Mayor Sam Adams, Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt, Battle Ground Mayor Mike Ciraulo, Forest Grove Mayor Peter Truax, Gresham Mayor Shane Bemis, North Plains Mayor David Hatcher, Tigard Mayor Craig Dirkson along with former Loaves & Fishes Centers Executive Directors and Board Presidents. Oregon gubernatorial candidates John Kitzhaber, Bill Bradbury and Allen Alley will also be in attendance and will deliver Meals-On-Wheels following the brief ceremony.
