International Women’s Day celebration planned
(Feb. 16, 2005 – Portland, OR.) Loaves & Fishes Centers, The Meals-On-Wheels People, and Neighborhood House Senior Center will celebrate International Women’s Day with a special lunch and live entertainment.
Roslyn Farrington, executive director of the Oregon Women’s Commission, and a group of international musicians will join the celebration. The event will take place from 1-4 p.m. March 8 in the auditorium at the Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 S.W. Capitol Highway. Performers include Tamara Yurovskaya, Vladimir Tarasenko, Inna Karakuts and Marsha Mitkova.
International Women’s Day is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. The idea of an International Women's Day first arose at the turn of the century as a way to recognize the work women around the world have done to achieve equality, justice, peace and development.
For reservations, call Lane Poncy, activities assistant for Neighborhood House Senior Center, at 503-244-5204.
